Stanthorpe Rugby League started way back in 1919 with the first official game being played at the Stanthorpe Showgrounds against Toowoomba Valleys under the banner of Stanthorpe Amateur Rugby League and having a red apple on a shield as their emblem. In 1974 a new identity was decided upon and The Stanthorpe Gremlins were established and have proudly played with the ‘Gremlin’ on their jersey ever since. They are also the only sporting club known in Australia to have the ‘Gremlin’ as their club emblem.
The club was formed in order to provide an opportunity for the community members of Stanthorpe and the surrounding areas to be able to participate in the sport of rugby league and continues to provide programs, facilities and services for the benefit of the local community including partnering with local schools and other sporting clubs to host large rugby league carnivals and matches, which include QRL Intrust Cup, the school based Broncos Cup Competition and the annual Redlands4Stanthorpe Carnival.
The Stanthorpe Gremlins are an all-inclusive club and have both junior and senior teams playing rugby league and league tag games in the Warwick & District Junior Rugby League and Border Rivers Rugby League competitions respectively.
